PRAIRIE SPIRIT SCHOOL DIVISION – LAIRD SCHOOL

Grade Configuration Changes at Laird School
After many discussions throughout the school review process, the Prairie Spirit Board of Education has decided to keep Laird School open with changes to the school’s grade configuration.

Beginning this fall, Laird School will become a Kindergarten to Grade 6 school, with Laird students in Grades 7 and 8 attending Waldheim School. This decision was made with the intention of providing strong support for students, staff and families.

The Ministry of Education has committed to providing funds for repairs to Laird School. This was an important consideration in the Board’s decision, and the Board thanks the provincial government for this investment in education.

The Board has directed administration to develop an implementation plan in consultation with the School Community Council at both Laird School and Waldheim School. The plan will address student placement, transportation, and communication with families and will be shared by June 15, 2026.

Students and families impacted by the changes to the school’s grade configuration will receive more information, including details about student transportation to Waldheim School.

A school review is a structured process designed to gather information, listen to the community, and make informed decisions that support students and families. The Laird School Review began in September 2025 and concludes with the Board’s motion on April 20.

At the conclusion of the school review process, the Board of Education extends its appreciation to Laird School families, the Laird School SCC, the Laird School Review Committee and the Laird community for their active participation and engagement.
