Introduction to Unit XXIII: New Friendships
In Unit XXIII you will learn to use structures and phrases for introducing yourself and sharing information about your family and place of residence. You will review noun-adjective agreement in the Genitive, Instrumental, Dative and Locative Cases. You will also work with Perfective-Imperfective verb combinations and geographic place names. There will be opportunities for translation and reading comprehension within the context of the theme.

What will you learn by the end of this Unit?
- To understand and apply two new uses of the Genitive Case with certain prepositions.
- To review grammatical patterns for the use of adjectives and nouns in the Genitive, Instrumental, Dative and Locative Cases, as well as the numbers 1-5 in the Nominative and Accusative Cases.
- To apply the Genitive, Dative and Locative Cases to global locations, paying attention to the important role of cognates.
- To review and reinforce prefixes used to form Perfective verbs.
- To distinguish between regular and inverted order of sentences as used with nouns and pronouns in the Genitive Case.

Тарас, Василь та Андрій знайомляться з Лесею Новак. Хлопці хочуть все знати про Лесю – про її дім, про місто й родину. Леся відповідає на всі питання, бо їй дуже приємо розмовляти з новими друзями. Вона пояснює, що вона з Торонта, але тепер живе у Вінніпезі в тітки й вуйка. Леся має велику сім’ю – батьки, два брати і дві сестри, але вони всі ще у Торонті.
