Do you ever take trips out of the colony?

*Each paragraph represents a separate student response.

We have also gone on a visit to other colonies with our teacher.  We do not hire a school bus because there are only 9 students in the classroom.  We can take the van and our teacher takes his car.  We took this trip because we, the students, wanted to show other colonies to our teacher.  We all wanted to learn as much as we could about the Hutterite ways of living by visiting other colonies.  We also went to the Calgary zoo and the Drumheller museum.  We had fun looking at all the animals!

Yes, we take lots of trips out of the colony.  We can go to town as often as we like, but we have to ask.  When we leave the colony to go to town or to take a vacation, we have to ask the six elders of the colony.  Usually they say that we can go.  We go to town lots because most of our business is in the city or outside the colony.  We also take trips out of the province or out of the county to visit our relatives on other colonies.  We do not go to such places as the Caribbean for a holiday like other English farmers do sometimes.  We take trips to visit our relatives and we have relatives on just about every colony.  We usually take the colony van when we go on a long trip and the colony secretary gives us gas money enough to pay the gas and buy food.
