EXAM ATTENDANCE
Students are expected to be present for all examinations. If students must miss an examination due to illness or other emergency circumstances, the school must be notified by the student's parent prior to the examination being written. Failure to follow this procedure may result in the student receiving a mark of 0% in that exam. Absence from a final examination requires a doctor's certificate.

STUDENTS' RESPONSIBILITIES AND DEPORTMENT
Students who attend Lord Asquith School must have a strong sense of self-discipline and self-respect. They must realize that they have responsibilities to other members of the school community. Living up to these expectations will ensure that each student can derive the maximum benefit from the programs available at Lord Asquith School.
Routines and appropriate student deportment are necessary if the activities of the student population are to be effective. Thus the following expectations are presented to guide students' behaviour in school:
a) Aim for excellence and neatness;
b) Be conscientious and diligent in work;
c) Show respect for others in the school;
d) Respect the property of the school and people in the school.
Lord Asquith School students are expected to exercise good taste and take pride in their personal appearance. Since the school is considered a place of work, students are expected to dress appropriately when they attend school.

GUIDELINES
1. Students should at all times dress modestly.
2. Clothing should be clean and neat.
3. Clothes with inappropriate messages are not permitted. Slogans advocating substance or alcohol use, vulgarities, prejudicial or sexist mottos have no place in school.
4. Footwear should be worn at all times.
5. Overcoats and caps are normally not appropriate wear in classrooms. Classrooms have closet space for students to store outer wear during class times.
These expectations are intended to assist students with the development of positive and responsible attitudes towards the work place and towards dress codes now and in the future.

STUDENT BEHAVIOUR
Lord Asquith School seeks a balance between individual freedom of action and freedom from the effect of other students' actions. Some regulation is required if the activities of approximately 350 people in the building are to be productive. Everyone must realize that they have responsibilities to others. As a rule of thumb, if you are in doubt about your behaviour ask yourself:
"Am I doing anything which will disturb others?"
"Am I breaking any of the rules of common courtesy toward my classmates, the school staff or other citizens of the community?"

POLICY ON HARASSMENT AND ASSAULT
At Lord Asquith School, we care about the students we teach. Providing a safe and healthy environment is of the utmost importance. In situations where the actions of some students call into question your physical, mental, or emotional well-being and safety, action will be taken. This is termed harassment. Harassment by definition means to trouble or pursue relentlessly with things that annoy or torment. Such situations should be reported to a teacher or to the principal, where it will be handled as promptly and as confidentially as possible. The actions taken will be in accordance with Prairie Spirit School Division Policy. All serious complaints should be in writing and will be kept on file.

PRINCIPLES OF LORD ASQUITH SLC
1. The function and the principles of the organization should be clearly understood by the students.
2. The SLC may act only within strictly defined guidelines. The limitations of its authority must be clearly understood by all SLC members. The SLC receives from the administration of the school its right to exist and all of the SLC's actions are subject to approval by the Principal. Its right to represent the students and its powers are delegated by the school administration.
3. The SLC should concern itself with real and significant problems within the school.
4. The SLC's plan of organization must be consistent with its goals and objectives.
5. Although the SLC is elected by the students from Grades 6 to 12, it must represent the interests of the entire school.

SCHOOL RULES FOR K-5
1. Appropriate behaviour in classrooms and hallways means that you:
- obey all teachers;
- be a good friend to others in the class;
- walk in the school;
- look and listen when someone is talking to you.
2. Stay on the playground.
3. After lunch put your garbage in the garbage can.
4. Help to keep the school (including the playground) neat and tidy.
5. Be courteous and obedient to the secretary, teacher-aides and bus drivers.
6. Use appropriate language at all times.

ALCOHOL
Our school policy states that students must be in condition to learn effectively and must avoid situations which create problems for themselves, for others, or for the school. The possession, use or trafficking of alcohol or drugs is illegal. Evidence that a student is, or has been, using alcohol or drugs during the school day or at school activities will not be tolerated. Students involved in situations which violate this policy will be subject to one or more of the following consequences:
a) parental involvement;
b) referral to rehabilitative agencies;
c) police involvement;
d) suspension and/or expulsion.

RULES FOR BUS STUDENTS
1. Bus students are under the authority of the bus driver.
2. Yelling, shouting or whistling is not permitted on the bus.
3. It is the obligation of each student to notify the bus driver if that student is not making the return trip on the bus.
4. Students are to move directly into the school from the bus. They are not to get off the bus except at home, school, or when transferring to another bus.
5. Students are expected to take the seat assigned to them by the bus driver and to remain seated at all times.
6. Misbehaviour on the bus may result in the student being barred from the bus.
7. All bus students must have a town billet in case the bus does not run after school. It is important that students and billets each know their respective roles. This is in accordance with division policy.

BUSING GUIDELINES
*Riding on a school bus is a privilege, not a right.  We expect excellent behaviour and cooperation from students on our buses, just as we do in classrooms every day.
*A phone call to the bus driver if your child/children will not be on the bus is very much appreciated to maintain scheduled pickups and drop offs.  We can also avoid needless miles of bus riding for the other children on the bus.
*Our bus drivers will establish seating arrangements at the start of the fall term and as necessary during the year.
*Please have your children ready to board the bus five minutes before the designated departure time.  Students should stand back away from the bus when it is approaching the bus stop.  Students should remain facing forward when the bus is in motion.  Inappropriate language is not tolerated.  Upon leaving the bus, if you have to cross the road, you must cross in front of the bus.                                                *Drivers have the right to refuse transportation to any student who is not appropriately dressed for the weather conditions.                                                                                                                                     *Drivers will not allow students on the bus who are not on the bus list unless permission has been obtained first.                                                                                                                                               *Students are not allowed to take any article on the bus that may be classed as a projectile i.e.: skates/ski boots without protective bags, hockey sticks, toboggans, skateboards, skis and ski poles.    *Buses depart from the school five minutes after dismissal time.                                                             *A student who fails to abide by the rules, or who misbehaves on a bus may be denied bus transportation.                                                                                                                                              *Subsequent to consultation with the driver, the principal may suspend a student from riding the bus for up to three days per incident.                                                                                                                 *In the event that the principal recommends a suspension exceeding three days, the Director of Education, or designate will decide on appropriate action to be taken in accordance with Administrative Policy 804 - Discipline.                                                                                                                                *Yard service may be approved if the residence is at least 200 meters from the road allowance (fence line), the access road is of all weather construction, and there is a clear area to enable the bus to turn around without backing up.                                                                                                                           *Bus route time schedules are based on normal driving conditions.  The schedule is to be communicated to parents with the directive that under normal conditions buses will wait no longer than two minutes at any one pickup point, nor will they leave any pickup point ahead of time unless all students are accounted for.                                                                                                           SEVERE WEATHER CONDITIONS                                                                                                       *Environment Canada "Saskatoon" temperatures are to be used as a guide for Lord Asquith School in determining if buses should run.                                                                                                                *Buses are not to run if the combined temperature/wind chill factors result in a reading of -40 degrees C or below at 6:00 a.m. Buses will not pick up students with special needs if the combined factors result in a reading of -35 degrees C using Environment Canada data as above.                                  *Buses that do not run at the regular time in the morning are not to run at all on that same day.          *Bus drivers shall use their own discretion as to whether or not to run given the local temperature is above -40 degrees C (-35 degrees C for special needs), and/or weather and road conditions.            *Bus drivers are to decide whether or not to run by no later than thirty minutes before the first scheduled morning pickup, and no later than one hour prior to the scheduled afternoon dismissal.     *There is to be no early dismissal due to deteriorating weather conditions.  If it is determined that the buses will not run at the regular dismissal time, previously arranged in-town billeting is to be used for bus students and families are to be notified of those arrangements.                                                       *School is usually closed to students only for reasons such as health and safety.  So long as a school remains open for students, parents are welcome to transport their children to the school at any time during the school day.

GYM USE
Lord Asquith School has one of the best gymnasiums in the province and it should be a source of pride to us. As such, it is our responsibility to respect it and use it properly. The following are a few general rules that apply to gymnasium use:
1. No food or drink is allowed in the gym.
2. To protect the hardwood floor, proper footwear must be worn at all times. Runners with non-marking soles are the only appropriate footwear for Physical Education activities. All students are required to bring proper gym footwear to school for use in the gym only. Shoes worn outside are not allowed in the gym. During other functions, people are encouraged to remove outside footwear before entering the gymnasium.

MEDICAL/ACCIDENTS
Please send to the school a thorough profile of any student who has a special medical situation that could be of concern. Special procedures for care or possible need of emergency medication are examples of vital information that is needed to provide for the care of our students. In case a student is involved in an accident while at school, the following procedure will be followed:
1. If medical treatment is warranted outside the school, an attempt will be made to contact the parents in order to determine which emergency centre the student should be taken to;
2. Necessary report forms and accident forms will be dealt with by the teacher in charge of the activity through the main office.

ELEMENTARY RECESS POLICY
The students in K-5 have fifteen minute breaks at morning and afternoon recess. All students are encouraged to participate in outdoor recess. A break from work is healthy and students need the opportunity to relax and mingle with their friends. Students remain indoors for recess during inclement weather.

FOOD
Lord Asquith School is an allergy aware school. To ensure the continued health and safety of all students, we ask that you carefully monitor your child's food so that we do not have a medical emergency.

STUDENT TRANSPORTATION
The Board’s obligation and responsibility regarding the transportation of students is that the Board is responsible for students who are transported by school bus, from the time the students are picked up in the morning and dropped off at home at the end of the day. If a parent approves other arrangements because of appointments, illness, etc., those situations need to be clearly communicated to the school and the bus driver. This includes situations where students might at the upper grade levels provide their own transportation and offer that transportation to fellow students. In those instances, those authorizations must be provided (verbally or otherwise) to the school and the bus driver. Furthermore, bus drivers need to know which students and the number of students on their bus at all times in the event of a serious accident.
